Who We Are
We are here not for income, but for outcome
The Mission of MackinawOde is to protect natural resources through educational outreach and by connecting Indigenous communities to policymakers.
An understanding of Indigenous culture’s incorporation of natural resources in ceremonial practices and teachings does not receive enough attention or consideration. Many Indigenous communities follow what is known as ‘Natural Law,’ which is essentially humans’ existence with Mother Earth in a sustainable, renewable and harmonizing way.
MackinawOde bridges Indigenous communities to allies so they can all work towards a single purpose; protecting the Earth’s natural resources so they can be valued by generations to come.
Founded in 2019, MackinawOde, is an Indigenous led Water Projector Collective that helps raise awareness about the dangers of Line 5, and other Environmental Concerns (mining, pollution etc.).
We have raised awareness to the area, community, and beyond about our concerns as Indigenous peoples on the oil pipelines, we have also provided Indigenous peoples a voice on these critical issues.
We collaborate and work with other Line 5 grass roots groups, tribes, research organizations like the ARCTICenter and of course we work under the guidance of some of our Anishinabek elders and spiritual leaders from our local tribal communities with respect to our Anishinabek Natural Laws.
As protectors of mother Earth, Indigenous communities advocate for more sustainable natural resource practices.
